Abstract
CERCLA (so-called "Superfund" ) was enacted in 1980 in order to reduce environmental risks posed by abandoned and uncontrolled hazardous waste sites in the U.S.A.. EPA's Superfund program is responsible for enforcing Superfund laws and overseeing Superfund cleanup activities. The SITE Program which consists of Demonstration Program, Emerging Technology Program, Monitoring and Measurement Technologies Program, and Technology Transfer Program was established by EPA in 1986. The SITE Program encourages the development and implementation of 1) innovative treatment technologies for hazardous waste site remediation and 2) monitoring and measurement technologies for evaluating the nature and extent of hazardous waste site contamination. The promising technologies in the SITE Program were summarized.
