The Background and the Perspective of Waste Problems under the New Laws

Abstract
New waste related laws were introduced in Japan in 2000. The definition of waste and the priority of waste treatment have been clarified. However, contradictions between the laws still exist and effective action is insufficient. Social system reform is required as well as technical solutions for the waste problems.
